Should I call after a job interview?

A good way to gauge if a phone call is appropriate on follow up is by asking within the interview if a phone call, post interview, would be ok. Make sure to get an explicit positive reply before dialing; a safer and perhaps more effective route would be follow up via email or handwritten note, which reads often more considerate of the interviewer’s schedule and priorities.

However, It’s not totally out of the question to call after a job interview to see if you got the job or to touch base with decision makers, as long as you do it in a polite and understanding way. If you choose this route, keep the call very short, and express your genuine interest in the opportunity and your desire to check in on the progress of the hire.
